Welcome to Motherhood

"Welcome to Motherhood" was a short film I worked on during my internship with The STUDIO NYC. My responsibilities were to bring sequences to completion from whichever stage of the pipeline they were in at the time. I was given visual development artwork, real life reference photos, and an animatic to work from. The film was finished in Unreal Engine for its real-time capabilities and rendering speed, but I used Houdini, Maya, SpeedTree and ZBrush to create the individual elements that make up the scenes.

Opening Image

This is the opening image of the film - a picture perfect house that is on the cover of a magazine. I am responsible for the modeling, set dressing, texturing, lighting, and post-processing. I was given a visual development drawing to inform the composition of the lighting.

Lighting Breakdown

Light at the End of the Tunnel

In this long continuous shot, I was responsible for the set dressing, waterfall simulation, and lighting/compositing. Three different lighting setups were needed within one shot: the golden path, the blue forest beyond the path, and the sunlit valley at the end of the road.

To create the scene I was given a storyboard and reference images of idyllic waterfalls in real photographs. The storyboard did not have a distinct composition for the valley so I was asked to develop it. I studied the photograph references to recreate the paradise feeling the creative team wanted in the lighting and in the supporting volumetrics of my waterfall simulation.
