Exploration in Color & Genre

This laundromat environment was a way for me to explore how changing the color of the light, shadows, and environment can completely change the tone and genre of the image.

I began with a value structure study as I created the lighting setup by focusing on developing a clear image with distinct lighting hierarchies and contrast. Then I sent the black and white image below to a friend to create three different color keys for me to use as prompts. Her color keys provided guidance as I experimented in the CG scene with how different color lights would mix with each other and with the colors of the environment to change the tone of the scene.

Once the lighting inspired by the three color keys was complete, I took what I learned from developing the mood for those three versions and created the red traffic light version.
